The Kenakena School Parent Teacher Association is a registered charity run by friendly, enthusiastic volunteers from our school whānau.
Formerly known as the Parent Network, we run fundraisers to help support vital educational resources and activities not fully covered by government funding.
We play a key role in supporting the school pool, classroom tech, library books, the dyslexia unit, Boys’ Mentoring, and Mana Wāhine, and each year, we aim to contribute $25,000 or more to these essential initiatives.
Our fundraising events – such as the Festival of Fun – bring a positive buzz to the playground and help strengthen our school community too.
Keen to join? New members are welcome anytime – no experience needed, just bring your creativity and positive energy! Get in touch now: kspta@kk.school.nz.
All parents and guardians of Kenakena School students are welcome to join the PTA at any time of the year. Whether you’d like to join as a member or an occasional event volunteer, we need you!
If you’d like to take on a special role in the KSPTA, officers are elected at the Annual General Meeting early in the school year.
As a registered charity, we have to elect a minimum number of officers in specific roles in order to be able to maintain our registration – this includes our chairperson, secretary, treasurer, communications coordinator and others.
The KSPTA meets twice per term, usually on the second week of term and the second to last week of term, in the staffroom at 7:30pm. Meeting dates are confirmed in the school newsletter or on Hero.
Volunteers are welcome to come to as many in-person meetings as they like, so it can actually be a very light commitment. You can even join remotely via phone or video call. Please give us advance notice if you need a remote option.
The secretary sends out a meeting agenda in advance so we know what we’re covering in the session. Our chairperson is very focused on keeping us on task and on time!
At meetings, we:
If we decide to run an event, we form a smaller breakout group to organise it. For example, the annual Festival of Fun is run by a subcommittee of the KSPTA.
Sometimes KSPTA volunteers choose not to attend meetings at all and just help out at our regular rostered activities and special events, and that’s absolutely fine. These regular activities are generally organised via group chat.
Top Tip: There’s almost always a chocolate biscuit in it for you at an in-person meeting, and plenty of free tea and coffee!

Friday lunches are a weekly highlight for Kenakena kids and bring in around $7,000 a year for the school! We need more people on the roster to help collate and prep orders – it’s simple, social, and training is provided so genuinely no experience is needed!
Collating lunch orders: Fridays, 9–10am
Preparing class orders for delivery: Fridays, 12:40pm-2pm
Keen to help? Email lunches@kk.school.nz and we’ll pop you in the Lunches group chat.
Rebus Club meetings are held in Paraparaumu on the first Tuesday of each month from 10am to 11:30am. Our volunteers serve tea at these meetings in exchange for donations to support the school – come join the roster and make a difference!
Keen to help? Email kspta@kk.school.nz and we’ll pop you in the Rebus group chat.
Our tamariki love school discos, dress-up days, movie nights, roller discos, pool parties, bake and plant sales, bouncy castle days, fun runs, pre-loved fashion sales, sausage sizzles and more. The KSPTA also organises our biggest event of the year, the Festival of Fun.
