Performing Arts Programme

At Kenakena, we believe in giving children the opportunity to express themselves, be that on the field of play, in the classroom, or on the stage.

From those who have never picked up a musical instrument or danced on stage, right through to talented, experienced performers Kenakena provides the opportunity for students to grow through performing arts.

Kenakena teacher Samantha (Sam) Edwards is the Performing Arts Co-ordinator and she delivers a programme that enables children to explore their talents and find a pathway for using them. Children can get involved in ukulele, singing (Kenakena Sound), song-writing, school band and dance production.

Sam also advises and assists teaching teams throughout the school to develop performing arts confidently in learning programmes and organises an annual talent quest, Kenakena’s Got Talent.

One of the stand-out features of the Kenakena Performing Arts Programme is that there is a considerable amount of ‘student voice’, where the kids get to have significant input into the development of their performances.
